Artist Statement
"Inside Out" is a concept developed from two contrasting spaces: safe and unsafe. My goal with this concept was to convey objective and subjective conflicting emotions, perceptions, and thoughts about spaces. In this video, I took the economy SDG as a starting point to investigate the restricted spaces, which lead me to the social stratification issue. This component is a good example depicting inequality and the disparity between classes, or, as I mentioned, spaces. I then concluded that the taxi ranks in South Africa are decent illustrations of how the world perceives the lower class and how the lower class perceives themselves. This video depicts contrasting perspectives of the spaces in the taxi ranks. Positive perspectives are those of the world. The mixture of calm and loud noises reveals the contrasting spaces and helps direct the audiences' focus.
